Western Stanton reports Thanksgiving gatherings across the area with Hoffmann, Donlin, Brandstetter, Zimmerman, and Muecke families hosting relatives in Ruble and Hinton, plus LeMars visits and local society plans. Miss Gladys Lippken wins first in reading, earning a state spot next February.
Elkhorn Vivian Hamil returned home from the Methodist hospital last Wednesday after double pneumonia. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Epp ling on Wednesday Nov 17 a son. Families and neighbors attended funerals and visited in local homes including the Pratt and Fletcher households. Farmers continue husking corn amid recent snow and cold.
North Washington residents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ommen of near Craig visited Mrs. Henry Johnson in Brunsville on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Harms and family of Brunsville were dinner guests at Eldo Banch’s near West LeMars on Thursday. Mrs. J. Brunsville residents hosted and visited includes the Vernons, Harms, Dirks, Diediker, Johnsons, Popken, Klemmie, Ludwigs, Plueger, Redelfs, Livermore, Siebens, Renken and others. Attendees traveled from Akron Preston Lincoln Craig Struble Crathorne and Washington township area for dinners dances and birthday celebrations. New local moves include Plueger and Livermore families changing homes.
Special correspondent reports a flurry of visits and gatherings around Gaza LeMars Remsen and Marcus Iowa. Albert Lundgren and family traveled to Gaza. many Kloster and Mortensen families, plus Arnold Patterson and others, hosted Thanksgiving dinners and shopped in Remsen LeMars and Marcus. A Thanksgiving program at school No. 4 drew a large crowd and prizes were awarded to Mrs Morten Mortensen Roy Nielsen and Howard Juhl. A wedding in Bernsen to Robert Lundgren and Irene Haack attracted many locals.
Grant Miss Marie Mammen departed for Los Angeles California on Monday. Several from Grant attended the double wedding of Mr and Mrs E E Dirks and Edna traveled to Sibley Iowa last Monday. Luther League will be entertained Sunday evening December 5 by Lucille and Elmer Bruns.
Birthday reminders and visits mark a busy Thanksgiving week in the community. Henry Pageler enjoyed a birthday, Will S. Mammen returned from Des Moines for business, and several locals joined in Thanksgiving dinners at the Dirks, Wilken, and Heeren households near Chatsworth. Officers were elected for the corn hog program, with Langendorfer Mammen and Siebels named. Families such as Bunge Harms and Ahrendt celebrated birthdays and hosted relatives while Elmer Mammen and John Kruse planned a diesel engineering course in Des Moines.
A string of Thanksgiving visits and relocations fills Le Mars and surrounding townships. Families, relatives, and neighbors meet in Fredonia and Le Mars while several move jobs or travel for holiday gatherings, including Mrs. Gieses sale of the smith shop and Mrs. Stinger departing for Tyrene, South Dakota.
Washington Center resident Misa Tillie Siekens returns home after weeks with Fred Renken in Nebraska. Mr and Mrs J J Hickey of Sioux City visited LeMars on Tuesday. Craig visitors Charley Mammen and Elmer, and Herman Kruse were there. Esther Plueger of LeMars, a local high school student, stayed with Ed Plueger near Craig. A Brunsville dance drew a crowd on Saturday night. Thanksgiving dinner at Herman Kruse’s near Brunsville included Harm Kruse and family and others.
Numerous residents travel for holidays and winter plans. Ida Howard heads to Akron then Waterloo to stay with relatives. E C Carpenter to Sioux City. Orange City visitors include Mrs Bessie Cambier and Sadie. Local churches hold Thanksgiving programs. births noted and oil tank added by Standard Oil.
Friday night departures include Gerrit and Henry Walraven with Mr and Mrs Clarence Walraven from here and Sioux City. Thanksgiving visitors at J C Jarvies home include Floyd Bartlett and son from LeMars and Mrs Harvey Borchers and son Jerry Lee from San Diego, formerly Rouletta Meyers. Lois Simons leaves for Alton Illinois after visiting Ames. Florence VanderWicken of Cherokee visits VanderWickens. Mrs Morten Shook hosts Thursday afternoon. First Reformed Girls Society to present a program December 3 at 7 45 with TenNapel and Walraven participants, readings, duets, trios, and benediction. ice cream and cake to follow.
A girls society announces summer display dates following the program and before the 80 celal hour. The program starts at 7 45 and the public is invited to attend these services.
