The Van Horssen estate land sold well Saturday with 160 acres and buildings going for 225 per acre to Ike Van Klompenburg. An unimproved 40 acre tract sold for 260 per acre to Frank Muilenburg and an 80 acre lot to Dick Kluis for 260 per acre. Land sales remain brisk with a 25 percent down payment noted.

Le Mars Public Schools open with higher first day enrollment
Le Mars Public Schools started the term with about six percent more students than last year. First day total enrollment across all buildings reached 908, up from 853. 44 in elementary, 219 in junior high, 249 in senior high, with 83 kindergarten pupils at Franklin and 48 at Clark. Nonresident tuition pupils numbered 163 in high school grades, and rural bus riders were between 150 and 160.
