Thresher Injures Farmer in Sioux City Area
Walter Wetrosky brought hogs to Sioux City Saturday morning. Dave Miller suffered a leg fracture when a tractor backed up as he prepared to block a wheel. he was taken to Methodist hospital in Sioux City and remained there through Sunday. The accident follows Miller’s recent surgeries and illnesses.

Iowa State College expert urges early and ample feeding for growing bulls to achieve full development. Barley as Hog Feed Near Biscuits and Corn Feeds
Barley self fed to pigs can rival corn for growth when offered in a readily eaten form. Iowa State studies show ground barley with tankage needs only 5 percent more feed than corn to match results in gilts, while soaked barley increases required barley by 13 to 24 percent. Barley provides 75 to 80 percent of corn’s fattening value and about 85 percent of its energy, with higher protein reducing needed tankage. Encouraging pigs to eat enough barley remains a key challenge, especially when transitioning from corn and tankage in self-feeders.
