Le Mars Soldier Assigned to Vietnam 25th Division

PFC Brian C. Turner, 21, son of Reuben H. Turner of Le Mars, was assigned March 23 to the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He serves with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry. Turner joined the army in October 1967 after basic training at Fort Lewis and was most recently stationed at Fort Polk. A 1964 Kingsley-Pierson graduate, he attended Westmar College and worked as a Le Mars bus driver before enlisting.

Proposal changes lawmakers pay in Iowa sessions

A subcommittee of Iowa’s Legislative Processes Committee proposed major salary changes for lawmakers. They recommend $8,000 for biennial sessions plus $18 daily expense during sessions, or $6,000 yearly with the same $18 daily if annual sessions pass. An interim $40 daily allowance would apply for each interim meeting. Current pay is $40 daily with a seven day week during sessions. last session pay totaled about $7,000 per lawmaker. A Polk county exception caps expense at $9 daily.

Akron neighbors approve United Fund ballot voting

Akron residents over 90 percent approved the published ballot for the United Fund. Voters were reached by radio, newspaper, and the school system. Various comments to the committee members accompanied the ballots.
