Niehaus shoots at girl in Union Township attack

Caspar Niehaus fired four shots at Miss Anna Wengler, a fifteen year old girl helping in a field near Scott Clarke Place. Wengler was wounded above the hip and shoulder blade, with scalp injuries. her father, Mr. Wengler, was hurt while subduing Niehaus. Niehaus was arrested and held for grand jury action as doctors battled infection risk. Wengler’s condition is serious but hopeful for recovery.

Ling Purchases Cynic Theater Renames Wonderland

Tienry Ting, former owner of the Family Theatre, has bought the Cynic at Cherokee and will rename it Wonderland. The theater will close until May first while Ling renovates to create a premier moving picture establishment with the latest machinery. The Ling family is well regarded in the area and expects prosperity in the new venture.

Rev Jones resigns as rector of St George's Church

Rev Carlos E. Jones has resigned the position of rector of St George's Episcopal church and will soon move to a suburban church in Milwaukee. The resignation was accepted at the Monday evening annual meeting after confirmation services by Bishop Morrison of Dubuque. Vestry members for the ensuing year named: A. C. Colledge, C. H. Cannon, A. C. Colpoys and W. W. Osborne. Jones will end his connection with St George's on the last Sunday of April.

Marriage of Katherine Null to Edwin G Champion

On April 14 at the Null home south of Struble a wedding joined Katherine Null and Edwin G Champion of Mapelton Iowa. A family ceremony followed by an evening reception at Dr B F Natl’s home with many friends. The bride, praised as estimable, will live with her husband a prosperous farmer near Mapelton. Rev H S Hamilton officiated.

A Rare Musical Treat At Dalton Opera House

A concert at the Dalton opera house drew city elite Wednesday, featuring Miss Kath erine Hellaire violin Miss Cecelia Bellaire piano Mrs Chas Harris soprano and Mrs W Spotts as accompanist. Two pianos a grand and an upright accompanied rich selections from Grieg Sarasate Liszt and Chopin with strong applause and encores. The event highlighted the Bellaire sisters and Mrs Spotts and Harris as rising artistic talents with studies from the Dubuque conservatories and academy of music. Oyens Man Robbed in Sioux City Hold Up

Herman Woppner of Oyens Iowa was knocked down by two criminals in Sioux City about seven pm while en route to buy a cow from a man named Smith. He lost about 49 dollars and was rendered unconscious by a blow to the head but managed a partial description of his attackers, a tall red faced red haired man and a smaller, grim companion.
