Garman farmers from Crawford and Ida counties decide not to form a local hail insurance company and instead join the LeMars German Mutual Hail Society after thorough investigation. Thirty applicants were received Wednesday as the LeMars company strengthens its position in the region.

Mrs Sidney Hicks long known in LeMars and surrounding townships died in Seattle Washington on a Wednesday from Brights disease. Born April 12 1866 in Le Stanton township she lived in LeMars until moving to Seattle a year ago. She married Wi Hicks about sixteen years ago and leaves two daughters Ethel and Erna aged about thirteen and fifteen. Her sister is Mrs A L Datzauer and Mrs Arnold Schroten, with many relatives in the county. She was a kind mother and member of Acorn Rebekah lodge. The remains will be brought back for interment though the formality had not been fully decided.
Miss Mollie Elizabeth Brown of St Paul and Mr William Thompson Hall of LeMars were married Wednesday at Ss Clemmens Church in LeMars in a ceremony led by Rev BE Dray. The couple will reside at North Main Street after May 1 and plan a home with the groom’s parents on Court Street. Both are well known in LeMars and receive many congratulations from friends.
The White House Bathing Palace built by R W Harrison on Main Street near the business district will open to the public next week. It features a white Sioux Falls pressed brick exterior, an elaborately finished interior, a 30,000 gallon pool, men's and ladies rest areas, bath rooms, and attendants ready to welcome patrons. The builder states the facility is the best west of Chicago and invites public inspection.
A customer letter from Dublin Georgia praises Electric Bitters for an aged mother age about eighty three, noting improved appetite strength and sleep after two years use. The product is touted as beneficial for female weakness debility and for stomach liver and kidney troubles, with a pharmacist endorsement.

Major Francis P Fremont, son of the late General John C Fremont, faced two court martial charges over alleged loan fraud. Bank official Clinton Brane testified a $300 loan in 1906 was based on claimed $12,000 San Francisco property. Edward Donnelly testified of a Cuba tobacco venture and Havana funds that did not exist, saying Fremont could not repay despite an $1,500 order.
Governor Deneen presented to the Illinois legislature the commission report on a deep waterway from the lakes to the gulf. The 18 foot channel from Chicago to St. Louis is feasible. He urges legislation to grant canal commissioners power to develop and use the water power.
In Logansport Indiana on April 11 farmer F Stoughton was summoned to Dr John W gen s office for a friendly visit. Bal Ly and others formed a lunacy board to judge his sanity. The man cried My God John would you send me to the madhouse, collapsed and died soon after. Stoughton’s relatives had petitioned for a commission and hoped weeks of treatment would restore his faculties.
Washington April 11 4 Argument began in the Supreme Court in two cases Damsell Howard and N C Brooks on the constitutionality of the employers liability law which holds railroads in interstate commerce responsible for damages to employees when caused by neglect of fellow workers or defective appliances. Trial courts in both cases ruled the statute invalid.
The Interstate Commerce Commission hearing on grain rates from Kansas points to the Gulf ended in Topeka. The commission will hear arguments June 7 and 8 in two Kansas cases and two Oklahoma cases involving the same rates, in Washington.
In California on April 11 a Southern Pacific freight engine boiler exploded on Tehachapi mountain killing engineer Machin and fireman Vaughan. A passenger engine near Mojave also blew up during departure from the roundhouse, killing Hustler HB Warnest and Helper 1 8.
Mrs Sarah Miles Hanna, 82, reputedly the oldest Daughters of Rebekah member and the only woman ever to receive the degree of chivalry from the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, died at her Kansas City home after a paralytic illness.
