John B. Wingert of Iowa State College extension service addressed 385 homemakers on March 30 outlining a split approach for flower use. He advised growing cut flowers in rows for easy use without robbing formal beds and listed annuals and perennials suited for house decor and garden display.
Remsen trustees cut the Optional Residential rate in a regular meeting, gifting 30 KWH monthly to all on the rate and saving patrons about 1 100 yearly. The new price is 5c for the first 80 KWH, with a 10 percent cash discount reducing to 4 4 cents. effective March 20.
The Weather Bureau predicts a warm to hot April 10 to 15 in the upper Mississippi Lower Missouri Valleys and northern central Great Plains with most areas above normal temperatures. Precipitation is likely below average overall. Observer D N Zeig notes April 5 to 9 readings.
Des Moines reports the 48th Iowa general assembly focuses on appropriations with Republicans anxious about meeting their economy pledge for the next biennium. lawmakers seek to trim a proposed $3.9 million annual increase from the last budget, with total funding around $24 million once departments not previously budgeted are added. Names include Sheriff Cap Wagner of Waterloo as a potential first state commissioner of public safety.
The legislature moves to set up a state public safety department coordinating policing and inspection services under one head. Wagner may seek the job but is wary of a $4,090 yearly salary. The appropriations bill awaits Governor Wilson's signature and newspaper publication as lawmakers wrestle over university and state college salaries and tax relief. The Senate approved Bangs disease eradication funding and a farmer tax equalization plan, while an agricultural relief committee proposed limited mortgage moratoriums under court discretion.

Miss Dorothy Leetch from Smithland visited Ruth Hahn last weekend. Mr and Mrs Jones from Nevada Iowa visited daughter Mrs Basil Grimes last Saturday. Rev G Co Thompson and family visiting Roland Iowa this week. Thompson attends Evangeli cal seminary board meeting in Naperville Wednesday. The college mixed chorus plans a home concert next Sunday evening. The group then travels to South Dakota and Minnesota the following week. Alma Brown, matron of Wernl hall, visited Sioux City and Des Moines recently. Eva White, teaching in Ames, visited her parents A. L. and Mrs. White Friday and Saturday. Coach Clyde Drury visited Marshalltown to see his parents and gave students a ride home and back.
A home gathering honored Annaleen Wig and Arline Hutton with Sunday dinner guests. Mrs Otto Ludwig and Mrs LeMarg gathered for the event as John Gra and others attended. Anna’s confirmation was noted in connection with the family and friends present.
Ruthle Alfred and Walter Rye transact business in Lew, afternoon notes show neighbors visiting at August Borchers and Alfred Klemme homes. Sunday gatherings at Gerd Wilken and Heeren residences feature Alvin Klemme and family attendance. Dorothy Tapper missed a week of school due to the flu. other locals include Elmer Hoffmann assisting, and multiple Klemme, Wilken, Borchers, Kleng, and Heeren family visits and birthday reminders.
