Rail wreck derails one o'clock passenger near Ireton depot
The one o'clock passenger train derailed Friday near the Ireton depot, all coaches and the engine left the track. No injuries reported, but about 30 feet of rails torn up. Hawarden crews worked through Sunday to replace the train and repair rails, blamed on wet snow.

Craig Henry Croon Jr notes the death of Otis Schmidt of Nokomis, a barber for 27 years, who was returning to work when struck by a passenger train.
