Paving Cost Debate On Main Street Involving Waterloo Letter

Dr T S Cole initiated a remonstrance against paving Main street as a cost dispute arose claiming paving would cost $2 or more per square yard. Mayor Kain received a Waterloo mayoral letter dated April 4 1903 stating a contract for 63 blocks of brick paving at $1.36 per square yard with asphalt and cement work is completed by October 1 1908.

City council closes year and appoints officers in session

The city council met in regular session to close the year’s business, approve bills, and organize the new term. O. L. Loudenslager is clerk, Nf. Bruns street commissioner, J. W. Meyer city engineer, with limited applicants for offices. Dr. Mary Breen elected health officer. The council also approved library location at Main and Fourth and accepted paving petitions on Sixth Street and Main Street.

Speed Program for Fair in Plymouth County

The Plymouth county fair schedules a speed program amid early interest from many companies offering attractions. The firm acquired rights from I E B VanFleet and offers a larger line of remedies with a strong guarantee. Guy Roush is active in the local field, boosting sales. The note also mentions a return to LeMars and a call for horses at John Wilter’s barn.

Man jailed for beating wife in LeMars case

John J. Neissius of Hubbard Street was jailed for 30 days by Mayor Kain after beating his wife over money she earned washing. He locked her in and used the key to keep her from leaving. she fled to her father's home. Neissius argued at the county jail as he was taken away, while relatives pressed the warrant for arrest. Neissius complained work was starting as he was locked up.

Death of John Eichhorn Democat civic leader dies at Remsen home

John Eichhorn a prominent Democrat and longtime county figure died at his Remsen area home Monday morning after a three year illness with consumption. He formerly lived in LeMars where he ran a business and served on the city council before resigning due to ill health. He leaves a widow seven children and many friends across the county. Funeral held in Remsen today with a large turnout.
