S F Meis son of Mr and Mrs John Meis declares candidacy for the Republican nomination for county attorney. The notice lists several local social visits and family movements including Mrs Walter Baldwin undergoing hospital surgery, Miss Margaret Bohlke recovering from tonsillectomy, and many residents traveling between Oyens Remsen LeMars and Sioux City for family, work, and medical reasons.
Struble Mr and Mrs John Moritz attended the funeral of George Thomas who died at a Chicago Veterans hospital. The deceased had worked as a faithful employee on a Wingsley area farm for twenty years with veterans services conducting the funeral and burial. Guests and family from Merrill Sioux City and Akron areas joined the services and gatherings at local homes.
Oltmanns and Miss Anna of Brunsville visited in the Otto Oltmanns home Sunday. Several guests from Remsen Kingsley and Worthington toured and dined with area families. In Monday's election John Werley was elected mayor with council members Pete Wilhelmi, Chas Lang, Mike Lang, Ralph Hinde and Jacob Weiss chosen, while Regina Garding won the assessor post. Sioux City shoppers and visitors are noted, with trips by Mrs. Don Nicholson and Donna Jo and a sunday gathering in Akron.
Residents from LeMars Grant township attended a Sunday evening gathering at the John Brabander home with card play and lunch. Numerous relatives and friends including Will Johnson family Ed Zink Dewey Driscoll and many others joined events across area homes in Grant township.
Washington Center Mr and Mrs Richard Klueger and son Dewaine spent Sunday with Walter Molzen near Kruble. Numerous relatives joined Jack Ludwig’s family Monday for first wedding anniversary celebrations. Henry Plueger and relatives visited Richard Plueger’s home as Grant Lutheran League planned a meeting. Pred Tteger and Molzen households hosted visitors from Newrita ble Alten German Pecks Jeutna Luschen and Roy Placeer. Carl Albers was noted at Jack Ludwig’s. John Dirks of Bransville and spouse celebrated 25th wedding anniversary Monday with friends. Fremehs family near LeMars and Miss Kranes Siebers visited Bransville households. Claus Steneene and family, JL Kruse, and others attended events at various Brunsville and Mitrmen homes. Lenice Plueger’s third birthday was celebrated Monday evening at the Bicard Ploeser home near Mitrmen. Joe Osborne, wintering in California, was mentioned as a caller.
Union The Laurel Paulin home was released from quarantine last Friday. Last Thursday afternoon Mrs Elmer Warneke led a final lesson on fitting garments for Farm Bureau ladies at Mrs Ed Tougood s. A good crowd attended and offered suggestions. A pot luck lunch followed. Mr and Mrs Chas Tucker and family of LeMars visited Gregg Featherston. Union consolidated school mothers banquet for basketball boys at Garret Heimstra home. Mr and Mrs E J Nicholson of Tracy Minnesota and Gordon Nicholson of Chicago visited D S Wormley. Mr and Mrs Donald Hoyt returned to Union township to live on the Hoyt farm. Hanfield of Correctionville died Saturday of bronchial pneumonia. Services held Wednesday at Correctionville. Estill Parry of Sioux City visited Walter Parry. Kermit Austine entertained Merry Meters club Tuesday. Mrs Flobert Bainbridge and Mrs Bus Singer led afternoon. lunch served. Mrs Kenneth McConnell reported sick.
Local residents hosted and visited over the weekend with many moving and traveling. Rachel Brandstetter left for Benton Harbor Michigan for work while others visited relatives in Merrill Orange City and LeMars. A farewell party honored Rachel Grandstetter with games and a social hour before luncheon. Nearby events included a Western Union college choir concert in LeMars and several family gatherings at the Zimmerman home.

Cliff Noble joined. Congregation cleaned church for Easter. Florence Baack and Amos Croon left for Clinton IA to attend funeral. Tom Price and son set up bachelor quarters in Craig. plan to stay. Mrs John Peduzzi and children visited Sioux City. Joe Delutzi and children from McNally visited John Peduzzi home. Mrs Edwin Klemme visited Mrs Amos Croon. Mrs Wm Clark and Mrs John Groenies were LeMars visitors. The Plymouth Co-op Oil company.
Friday the pany moved to a new location and installed the first electric gas pump in Craig. Wednesday Lenten service at St John’s Lutheran included confirmation class examinations. The Luther League from St John’s hosted Nora Winterfeld at Mr and Mrs L J Winterfeld’s home Friday. The Western Conference Town District Lutheran churches meet in Craig in late April. H J Ludwig family ill with all four members in bed. Miss Rohifs caring. E E Schulz and Nelson Hutton visited LeMars Saturday. April 5 brought the season’s last snowstorm with about an inch but strong wind.
Ireton residents Miss Sophie Brooks and Mrs. John Siebels purchased the Van derWicken cafe and goodwill and took possession Monday. Miss Brooks will run the cafe during summer with Mrs Siebels joining management next fall. The VanderWicks, from Le Mars, have operated in the area about ten years and Mrs. VanderWicken is recovering from a hip fracture at Sacred Heart hospital LeMars.
Johnson reports a Saturday blaze at the Miller garage when a John Dekker truck caught fire while Mr. Miller worked inside. He received burns to his arms and hand as flames damaged the truck interior before the fire was controlled.
