Plymouth County Soil Conservation District approves watershed permits

At the March 25 meeting in Le Mars the Plymouth County Soil Conservation District authorized the Chairman to sign water storage permits and construction approval forms. Permits must come from the Iowa Natural Resources Council before construction begins with hopes to let contracts by June. Attendees included Commissioners Tom Kenny and Don Lucken, Annie Pierson, George Lamp, LaVern Feusner, and Merle Sawyer.

Farmers press 1963 corn crop into price support then May 31

Plymouth County farm leaders report 952 748 bushels of 1963 crop corn under price support loans and purchase agreements through February, down from 1 329 946 through February 1963 for 1962 crop. Soybeans total 133 974 bushels. National totals list 957.6 million bushels of corn and 72.8 million soybeans under price support through February. The national corn total remains the smallest through February since 1959. Farmers have until May 31 to place their 1963 corn crop under the program. For other 1963 grains, closing dates for loans or purchase agreements have passed.

Fletcher Named Governor of Pi Kappa Province

James Fletcher head of the Speech Department at W college has been elected Governor of the Province of the Sioux of Pi Kappa Delta Honorary Forensics Society. The Pi Kappa Delta organization covers South Dakota and half of Iowa with 14 chapters in the province.

Pi Kappa tourney planned and convention slated

Mr. Fletcher will govern for two years and with the Province secretary treasurer run the Pi Kappa tournament at Buena Vista next year. He will also represent the Province at a national convention in Seattle next fall. Ring J. Vander Schaaf, 86, a retired Sioux Center farmer, died Thursday at home after a heart attack. He was born in Rovsianer in 1877 and married Minnie Kosters in 1905. Survivors include his widow, two sons and several daughters. Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church and burial followed in the Sioux Center Community cemetery.

John H. Van Roekel 78 of Maurice died Sunday at a Sioux Center hospital. Funeral services will be at 1 30 p m Tuesday at First Reformed Church Maurice with Rev MartM Hoekman officiating.
