The Henry Brothers of Northwestern Town held a spring sale east of Eld featuring forty three brood sows. Nearly all sows went to buyers led by Bivona County, with an average of 32.60 and a top bid of 360 for a Matchless Perfection bred sow. The sale boosts county hog industry and signals strong breeder confidence.
The Belau family on Washington street narrowly escaped poisoning from coal gas after Mr Belau left a damper too open. He woke early, fetched kindling, and with others exposed to the leaked gas grew sick. Neighbor J P Reiger opened the house and vented the gas. a physician treated injuries and all felt better after a few hours.
The City hospital association held its annual meeting at the city hospital on Monday afternoon. All old officers were re-elected: Reiter Adélinson President M Boyle Vice-President G mie Schneider Treasurer JH Buchanan Secretary 11. 7. Martin, H. H Thoren, W. Jt IPerry Mr3 BE A Dalton Miss Sybil Moore. The president and secretary form the executive committee. Nélise Myleahy remains, with Miss Assie Smith overseeing hospital management alongside Miss Smith. Mrs Templeton of Sioux City assists Miss Smith. further management details to be settled next week.
Plymouth Milling company announces a seed wheat exchange deal offering Dakota grown wheat for seed in this county while the supply lasts, dates April 4 to 7.
Jessie Blackburn was fined fifty dollars and costs by Mayor Linden for assault and disturbing the peace after a Saturday fight with Henry Solomon. The bond for appeal was set at 3500, George Brunskill signing. Blackburn may face more charges for mayhem as the district court case proceeds. Solomon sustained a broken rib and puncture wounds. In other news, the postmaster general orders rural carriers to have right of way on all country roads, with penalties for interference to ensure timely mail delivery.

Peter Hansen, aged 92, died at 10 p m Sunday March 26 at his son in law John Tansfeldt g in Meadow township after a quiet decline. Born in Schleswig Germany December 23 1814 he married Anna Brix in 1840 and they moved to the United States in 1879 then to Plymouth county in 1886. The couple celebrated their golden wedding November 8 and five of their seven children survive in the area. Funeral services were held March 28 at St Paul church in Remsen with Rev W Vehe, burial in Remsen cemetery.
O H Round a long time LeMars resident died at his daughter Mrs C D Eckerman s Rockwell City home on Saturday March 31 after a second apoplexy spell. He was 1841 born in Bradley Michigan served in the Civil War and moved to LeMars in 1882 building several business and residence structures. Survived by wife Mrs C D Eckerman and children Olin Round Geo Round and Mrs O D Eckerman with services held in Rockwell City and burial at LeMars.
The LeMars proposal outlines an electric mainline crossing Iowa, from twenty to twenty five million dollars in investment, running through prime farming land fifty to seventy five miles wide. Supporters claim it would not disturb the Ireton railroad and could relieve distant rail access, though railroad opponents may head it off. the project is debated as profitable and potentially overdue.
J J Gehlen of LeMars uses Jasper Minnesota stone to run a large steam crushing plant in Sioux City area. Plant, with manganese steel crushers, aims to meet future building demand. Contracts from Cudahy Packing for sand and crushed rock, reading to 6,000,000 pounds of sand and 141,000,000 pounds of rock. Also reports Easter sale at Congregational church with tea, supper and assorted dishes.
The First Presbyterian Church holds its annual congregational meeting on Thursday evening at the church. A supper is served from 4 to 5 30 while a reception for new members and a music program take place. Reports from various societies follow and officers for the coming year are elected.
LeMars hosts the Northwestern Iowa Chautauqua Assembly June 29 to July 8 with attendees traveling from Hawarden Rolfe Remsen Sioux City and Spencer. Local residents and visitors are noted: Miss Eva Frost Miss Jessie Helsel Rev Emil Mueller George Sammis and many others visit for Easter and business. The event area covers LeMars schools churches and surrounding towns with multiple people visiting relatives and attending services and meetings.
The funeral for Miss Maude Moist daughter of Mr and Mrs John Moist was held Sunday at 3 30 PM from the Firat Baptist Church following her death Friday morning shortly after 7 o clock. The services were conducted with solemn rites and interment followed in the local cemetery.
