Fine Farm Horses Killed By Freight Train

County Supervisor Henry Ahlers reports six fine farm horses killed Monday night on the Great Northern line. Three died instantly and three were injured. one likely to die, two may be crippled. Harry Murphy charged with stealing cattle from Henry Anderson of South Dakota secured release Thursday via habeas corpus brought by Sammis and Bradley. Witnesses refused to travel to Iowa. Judge Gaynor ordered discharge. Murphy had earlier used alias A. H. Smith, was jailed two years ago for stealing a watch, and had multiple episodes of insanity. He recently bought twenty four head of cattle in Dakota with a bad check, and is believed insane.

LeMars Pioneer Dominic Dominick dies at 83

Dominic Dominick longtime LeMars resident died at his son Frank Dominick’s home near Struble of chronic bronchitis. Born August 4 1841 in Luxembourg he came to LeMars at age 22 and worked as a shoemaker until ill health forced retirement. Funeral held Friday at St Joseph’s church at 10 30 AM. He leaves a widow six children and several siblings and relatives in the area.

Mrs James Mohan long ill in LeMars west part died Thursday night at home after months of sickness. She had seemed to recover recently but worsened about three weeks ago. Her children were summoned from Slax City and Fort Codge and were with her when she died. Funeral from St James church scheduled for Sunday.
