City council approves carnival contract and street changes
At last Friday’s meeting the council passed a contract with Parker Amusement for a city carnival and granted liquor licenses to Gorge Balluif and Charles Roderich. It approved sidewalk setbacks on Fairchild street and five foot edge rules on Dubuque and Court Prentiss. Other actions included cemetery moving funds, track relocation petitions, a milk license proposal, Kirkwood avenue grade, taxes, and sewer connection delays for Rock Island officials.

Court Street Sewer and Paving Plans Voted At City Meeting
At Friday’s council session two views on East Court street resurfacing were presented. A sewer protest was opposed by supporters who favored constructing a sewer from 170 feet east of Summit to Burlington street, with private backers agreeing to reimburse part of the connection cost. Officials set July 26 for a sewer vote and accepted the engineer’s $1221.20 cost estimate. The Iowa City Gas and Water Companies were ordered to lay 800 feet of gas and water mains on Court street east from Summit.
