White River Junction Vermont December 8. Mrs Rogers was executed at 1 13 p m after her attorneys failed to obtain another reprieve from Governor Bell.
Portland Oregon December 8 a.m Senator Mitchell lies near death as dissolution set in about 3 o clock this morning life clung to him with physicians using saline to keep him alive The senator was recently involved in the western land brands case and his death is anticipated.
A night session of the district court is planned to hear the Matt Maher trial and reach a jury verdict likely by Saturday. Judge Byington prepares jury instructions as cross examination of Maher continues.
The will of Join Huber set for probate on December 13. Wat Werba’s will admitted to probate with G W Koontz named executor. West Liberty high School to host a baseball game against West Liberty next Tuesday. Fred Robinson of Coralville pleaded guilty to assault and battery charged by H W Fairchild and fined five dollars plus costs.
John Panzer of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Iowa City, has joined the U.S. Marines for four years. He departs for California for about six weeks before heading to the Philippines. Friends in Cedar Rapids wish him success as he begins this service. Mr and Mrs Joseph Panzer left Muscatine after visiting James Panzer near Solon.
Mr and Mrs William Hofeditz and their young daughter Maizie and Miss Anna Hughes with her brother Will of Union township prepare to travel east next Sunday. They will visit William and Anna Hughes' parents in Wales whom they have not seen in ten years. The Hofeditzes will ride as far as Ebensburg Pennsylvania to spend the winter at Mrs Hoteditz's parents home Mr and Mrs Griff Lloyd.
Dr. J. B. Carder is back on his Johnson county farm near Solon after selling his Boone practice. His son Clinton plans to locate in South Dakota.
The university basketball team will play Augustana here tomorrow afternoon. J H Haggard enjoys a visit from his brother A A Haggard of Dallas Texas. The A Swanser home on Market street gains a slow piano. Mr and Mrs W W Ashley of Spokane Washington visit H M Jones this week. Knights of Columbus to elect officers next Thursday evening. Two who remain from earlier arrests in the hole in the ground will have a hearing tomorrow at city hall at nine o'clock.

It is not certain but possible that on Saturday Walter Alberbasky Charles Williams and James Morgan may be sentenced after verdicts were delivered. Alberbasky was found guilty and Williams and Morgan pleaded guilty. The Maher cage closes tonight allowing Judge Byington to proceed with sentences tomorrow.
The city board of park commissioners adopted a resolution to buy eighty acres owned by Mrs M A T Sanders north of the city on the west bank of the river for 810000. The purchase hinges on securing money at a favorable rate likely below five percent. Introduced by Prof Macbride the measure passed with Commissioners Koontz and Korab voting yes. Work to improve the property will begin in spring with preparations for public use.
A Simeon Graf reported finding a discharged shrapnel shell yesterday morning about two miles from Ft. Sill Oklahoma. The shell measured ten and three fourths inches long and three inches in diameter, weighed about eight pounds, and has a time adjustment for explosion.
Pupils stage a Japanese wedding tonight at the opera house with Edna Lewis as Bride and Lawrence Mayer as Groom. Cast includes Bride's father Chris Vetter and Bride's mother Sue McVee, plus a list of performers such as Rocsoe Ayers Mary Sanders Ruth Leweling Nella Ba Althe McVey Rose Menzil and Hazel Spencer.
The board of supervisors voted to acquire three additional voting machines funded by the county. They will be placed in Oxford Solon and Lone Tree and used for city and town elections. City pays 1525 dollars and county 3575 dollars over ten years.
The Redmen announce a new lodge in the city with about a hundred charter members. Davenport and Cedar Rapids Lodges will assist in the installation. F A Day, great chief of records, was in town coordinating the event. Davenport degree team will handle ritual work.
A Johnson county movement aims to merge six farmers mutual and rural insurance companies to cut expenses. Northwestern Mutual of North Liberty and Asian Farmers Mutual are considering a single company, with hopes others join. Savings from one secretary and larger risks could lower assessments per thousand dollars of risk.

Miss Hattie Rich, a recent graduate of the homeopathic training school for nurses, has secured a strong position as assistant superintendent of a hospital council. The appointment follows her graduation in the city last spring.
