Dr. Chick ranch gets a new well after eight days of drilling with the same outfit as at the Turner ranch. Water showed fine quality at 109 feet and continuous pumping at 12 gallons a minute did not lower it. The event occurred in the presence of Dr. Chick with T. B. Buffington reporting.
Mr and Mrs Joe Knappenberg were aboard a train Tuesday evening bound for Heppner. Audrey Woollery departed Monday morning for Portland for a brief visit.
Friends of Mr and Mrs A E Johnson attended a Halloween party at their Lone home. Guests dressed as spooks and were guided by the demon guide to a Witch s cave. The feast featured cider cake sandwiches and coffee. Guests included Mariel Cason Emma Gist Schmidt Hotchkiss Nellie Wilson and others. The Meyers of The Dalles Oregon visit their daughter Sadie Reynolds.
No prayer meeting services at the Christian Church this week due to the County Sunday School Convention.
Mrs Della Armitage of White Swan Washington is visiting her mother Mrs Mary Hale and sisters Mrs Walter Cason and Mrs John Cochran.
Ione High School defeated Echo 56 to 6 as Mearl Blake and Roy Blake each scored three touchdowns. Dick Sperry Elmer Cochran and Ray Sperry added the other scores. Echo’s only TD came on a fumble punt. The piece notes upcoming Echo visit from Zone on Thanksgiving and highlights school spirit and the newly formed Student Body Association with officers Jesse Dobyns Catherine Jones Goldie Stoops Ear Blake.
During the first week of school the class of 1916 reorganized for its Senior year naming Mearl Blake president Goldie Stoops vice president Jease Dobyns secretary David Reitman treasurer Della Davidson color bearer George Zink sergeant at arms. The class colors are brown and gold with pansy as the flower and motto Our Aim Success Our Hope To Win. The class of 1917 reorganized as juniors elect Catherine Jones president Frank Stoops secretary Ina Hartwell treasurer and adopt motto Facta non verba with colors red and green and a red rose as the flower. High school and eighth grade girls begin basketball practice without a hall using the tennis court hoping for a rink soon. Fifteen girls auditioned for a go get ’em team coached by Miss Hoetch kiss who heads the program. Practice is set Monday and Thursday after school with plans to increase time as players gain fitness.
On Wednesday Oct 7 at about 3:30 pm the fire alarm rang during a drill. Students rushed from classes as doors opened and Doak investigated the cause. A teacher asked if the alarm meant early release for eighth graders, prompting reflection on safety.
Christian Church schedules Bible School at 10 00 a m and preaching at 11 00 with the sermon The Great Transformation The evening sermon topic is Wanted A Skyline.
The City Council met last Tuesday evening approving several bills and adjourned to next Tuesday. The Committee on Light and Water was authorized to order materials and proceed with the city rewiring project.
Miss Dalles Perkins of Portland arrived Tuesday evening from Arlington by auto to be at the bedside of her father EB. T. Perkins who was taken suddenly ill the first of the week.
Clay Wood, a former Ione resident, returned this week from Cottonwood Idaho to visit his brother in law John Bryson.
Mia Porter and Otto F. Porter of Eightmile Canyon Oregon greet a daughter born October 28 1915 with attending physician Dr C C Chick.
Mrs. and Mr. Robert S. Wilson of Cecil Oregon welcomed a daughter on October 26 1915 with Dr. Chick serving as attending physician.

Clyde Sperry left for Arlington Monday morning. Rev. J. L. Jones will preach at Ione next Sunday.
