Sophomore Class Busy Says News Notes

The school reports frozen water pipes and higher water deliveries from Ritchie's and Engleman's. Country children are sent home and the primary class dismissed as high water arrives. The Sophomore Class studies The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and will switch to Spectator Papers by Addison and Steele. Freshmen finish Idylls of the King and will begin Ivanhoe when books arrive. Library additions include 250 books with more on the way and a traceable checkout system. Town borrowers may take books for two weeks with fines for late returns. The girls basketball team challenges Heppner girls for February 12. Tone floor game coached by Mr. Reynolds follows prior grammar boy games. A cabinet is built for new science equipment. Weather delays push outdoor games to later dates. trips to Moro and Grass Valley await. The High School smoker drew a large audience. wrestling, boxing, and sparring events featured Wayne Sperry, Johnny Bacon, Harley Sperry, Charles Pennington, Elmer Cochran, Ray Sperry, Ben Bordsen, Merle Blake, Joseph Lowell, Lloyd Fletcher, Kenneth and Roy Blake with Roy taking two falls. Miss Puyear, 5th and 6th grade teacher, was ill last week with tonsillitis. Snow and high water keep Mable Wilcox, Genevieve Henkle, Ruth Petteys, Frank and Goldie Stoops, Olive Anderson, and Blanche Turner from attending. Lula Calkins misses school due to illness.
