University of Oregon at Eugene reports the largest summer building program in its history. New quarters for 456 students are under construction with about 550000 dollars in expenditures. The effort includes a dormitory, four fraternity houses, and remodeling of a fifth. Three houses may be ready when students return in late September.
Mrs Seymour Wilson and Mrs Martin Baurenfeind visited Mrs Hardesty and Mrs Seely on Thursday. Mr and Mrs Charley Christopherson spent Sunday with Mrs Seely at the Hardesty home. Christopherson and Seely attended a show in Heppner that evening. Bert Palmateer motored to the valley last Thursday to visit friends. H O Ely returned from a coast trip last Thursday reporting a nice time. Edith Ely and the Pettyjohn sisters went to Lovejoy on Monday for high school. S D Seely moved to their Morgan home Monday. Seely started work for Al Treedson on Tuesday. Jono Nash is at home fixing the fence. Franklin Ely left Wednesday for Portland where she has a school starting September 10.
Thursday reports show Mrs. Corley and Mr. Ferris shopping in Pendleton while Nolan Page spends summer in Auburn Washington. The Balsigers travel to Hood River Lost Lake and Cloud Cap Inn with Alfred and Elva. C Shaver moves drilling outfit to M KR Morgan ranch for a new near house well. Charley Allenger returns from a multi state trip. Mrs. Ferris hosts Frank and Mrs. Clark of Medford. Floyd Barnett leaves for Hood River orchard work. Daniel Head heads to Cathlamet for studies. Ordie Farrens buys an Orthophonic Victrola at Bullard’s. Mrs. Hergevin and children return from Baker visit and board two children in Pendleton.

City council met in regular session with all members present. Audited claims include Tuma Lumber Co 7.70 Bert Mason 4.47 Bristow & Dulinson 75 Neptune Meter Co 65.82 and others. A light for Bert Mason’s rear and one at the ball park were ordered. sidewalks were discussed. a petition to install an eight inch sewer at private expense was considered with city as payable agent if granted. A call for stronger enforcement of public order led to appointing a deputy marshal.
