Pioneer Resident Augusta Mason Passes After Long Life
Death at seven a m on Monday ended Augusta Bates Mason’s 57 years in the same Rhea Creek home. Born April 8, 1846 in Belleville she crossed to Oregon in 1852 and lived in Salem after marriage to Joseph Mason who died 21 years ago. Survived by ten children, a sister, and many grandchildren, funeral at Congregational church in line followed by interment in Lone Cemetery.

Local farmer Arch Cochran killed by rifle discharge
Arch Cochran, a local farmer at the Laxton McMurray ranch near Lone Ek, was instantly killed last Wednesday morning when a .255 rifle discharged while he was handling it in the milk room. His father and mother, nearby in morning chores and dressing, witnessed the scene and rushed to assist as Cochran’s body lay in a pool of blood. Coroner Cage arrived to take charge.
