In a German town an old man Nicholas known as Saint Nicholas cared for children and gave candy. Children called him Grandpas Santa Claus while mothers who forbade visits kept the tale alive. The piece notes fewer Santa Clauses today as people become more self focused.

J W Higgins reports that the Order of Railway Conductors and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen refuse to arbitrate wage disputes with Western railways. The 1927 Watson Parker Act aimed to peacefully settle such conflicts. while engineers and firemen accepted 64 percent raises, conductors and trainmen hold to a 7 percent raise with the retention of restrictive rules. Mediation has failed and arbitration is sought to decide if rules should be eliminated in exchange for higher pay. The dispute could cost Western railways millions annually depending on outcomes.
