Supposed Dead Soldier Survives After Freight Train Return

Max B. Marshall, color sergeant in the Fourth Nebraska, was mislisted as dead after a cave-in crash near Hardsburg New Mexico. He awoke aboard a freight car six hours later en route to Deming, with a fractured skull and bruises. A Red Cross nurse tended him and his mother received cheerful letters from the recovering soldier.

Claude Butts Dead Aged 20 At Crook County Native Son

Claude Butts died at 20 10 20 near October 1917 after summer on LA ranch and an operation. He leaves a father mother brother and sister and many friends. Funeral held in Hulett with large turnout. Liberty Bond Meeting Promotes New War Financing Plan

Judge Nichols and Harry P. Isley led a Liberty Bond meeting in Sundance last evening urging a nationwide drive. Secretary McAdoo spoke at West Virginia White Sulphur Springs and outlined a $19 000 000 000 war target with most coming from the public. New 4 percent bonds will replace earlier issues and be exempt from inheritance tax and war profits tax while offering 4.10 purchase and five year redemption.
