A Sundance fire at noon destroyed the Sundance Hotel owned by A. L. Ripley. Firemen saved the lower floors as upper stories burned, leaving charred walls likely to be razed for a newer building. Ripley awaits insurance results before plans, and locals fear the town needs a hotel soon.
Mrs Frank Jolley hosted a five o'clock dinner Thursday for the Past Noble Grand Circle of the Rebekahs with several invited guests not in the circle. The social affair was enjoyed and the hostess received high compliments for generous hospitality. Spearfish Mail.
A ten pound son was born February 23 at Our Savior's Hospital Jacksonville Illinois to Mr and Mrs John Bothwell. The mother is formerly Miss Bess Clark of Jacksonville. Also noted are a church service with full attendance and Rev Brown delivering his usual sermon. Harry Fuller traveled from Aladdin last Saturday to inspect the mail line and visit friends.
Governor Kendrick signs the bill creating a new judicial district comprising Weston Campbell and Crook counties. He appoints RE C Raymond as judge until January 1 1917 and Raymond is in Newcastle today to qualify.
The Fruitdale Pioneer has new owners Shepard & Son who are printers and have improved the paper. The Valley Irrigator at Newell S D has been sold and Brer Sanders will move to his farm. Kansas governors and officials from Topeka Capital Hutchinson News and other papers are listed. Local events include church fuel shortage, shoe buying advice, staff changes at Loomis shop, sick list, bank staff, a court adjournment, travel to Sundance, and two farm transfers.
A $50 reward is posted by 111 W. W. and J. L. Driskill for information leading to the conviction of parties trespassing on their property. Seth Ford advertises 200 bushels of Royal Fife spring seed wheat for sale at $1.20 per bushel, available at his ranch on Deer Creek.
The county should hire and fund a county agricultural agent with dollar-for-dollar support from government and state. The agent’s work will prove indispensable once we recognize his place in the economy. The writer urges support and suggests petitions to the board, asking farmers to sign.

Mr and Mrs H A Garman and Mrs Miller with children traveled to Sundance last Tuesday to visit the Leslie family and handle business matters. If snow holds, they may stay till Saturday but after two overturns between town and Byrd crossing they canceled the trip for now.
Nat Griffis and family moved back onto the farm on Tuesday. The community will miss the genial family but they will not be far away, and their hearts remain in Hulett.

An advertisement proclaims Kerer the Shoe Man can beat mail order prices and quality with cheaper, stronger footwear. It promises free repairs on any shoe bought that fails wear tests for men boys and youths, soon expanding to women and children.
Rudolph Fredericks of Deadwood faced a U S commissioner hearing on charges of attempting to murder Henry Clark by mailing poisoned candies. The defendant admitted intent to kill and confessed to sending multiple tins disguised as from Clark's sister, with one marshmallow laced with strychnine. He was bound over to the grand jury in May in 10,000 dollars bond, which he could not meet.
Sherman Brimmer suffered a foot injury Saturday when a troublesome drone stepped on his foot, perforating the shoe with a metal calk and crushing the toy. The wound was dressed and the patient is recovering well.
L. S. Ford is one of the farmers making the diversified ranch pay. He raised several tons of beans this year with a good market secured. He fattened many hogs that were sought for a choice market and delivered a freight load to the New Store Monday at their Alwadepot, finding their market the best he could get.
In a recent letter Dut Mewhirter says they have sown oats and planted garden beds. The outlook for a wood fruit crop is described as fluttering while the winter was cold in Aviansas. Stock fared well and looks good, and Duts's folks are well and prospering.
Mrs J C Evans departed yesterday morning for Omaha to join her husband recovering in hospital after an operation. From Omaha they plan to travel to Tennessee or South Dakota as his condition improves. A legion of friends here wish him a speedy recovery.
Mail order business suffers a sharp setback in the Hulett country as residents send cash to distant houses instead of buying locally. A local focal man is urged to step forward and prove he can supply goods at home.
Two ranches changed hands this week as Eric Huseby bought the Hollister place and Joe Marking purchased the Loomis homestead.
