Fire destroys residence of Judge Richey

The home of Judge Richey, located a half mile north of town, burned to the ground shortly after Monday evening. Mrs. Richey was at home. a sewing machine and a pocketbook containing money were saved. Citizens of Hulett helped raise a Boy Scouts lodge built on donated site by Mr. McRae. The log structure 20 by 30 feet will include a swimming pool and gymnasium with lockers for Scouts. Local support urged to encourage youth service and community effort.

The Colony Coyote Begins Publication in Crook County

The first issue of The Colony Coyote dated July 5 is printed in Colony by Cola W. Shepard, bringing Crook County’s newspapers to six. The six by four page edition promises eight pages later, and Shepard earns community support for the enterprise.

Chester Long Loses New Home In Fire Near Government Canyon

Last Thursday morning a fire destroyed the new Chester Long residence near the 7-W ranch on Government canyon. Mrs. Long alone was home and saw smoke from the floor likely sparks from the stove igniting chips. Neighbors arrived too late to save the house or contents. Mr. Long was away at the time. the young couple face a hard setback after finishing the home recently. A. W. Marie and family returned from Whitewood after two months away. W. C. Thomas leased the pool hall from Sam Aultz, cut a doorway to the restaurant, and plans to run both venues, aiming to please patrons seeking entertainment at the ball.
