River tie drive proves feasible from Bear Lodge to Belle Fourche
The Hulett Die. Timber Co. sailed ties 4100 strong down the Belle Fourche River to the railroad at Belle Fourche in 23 days starting June 6. John Youngman led the party with eight initial men, later 15 or so, using two boats to transport commissary and ties. The operation showed river drives can move timber from the Bear Lodge country, with future large-scale possibilities.
