Obituary of Robert Cook Pioneer and Civilian Leader
Obituary for Robert Cook born November 21 1837 Dubuque Iowa died January 23 1919 age 81 years two months two days. Survived by wife Sarah R Cook two sons J Leslie Cook and Paul J Cook adopted son one brother Thomas G Cook Sturgis SD and one sister Elizabeth Fenwick Dubuque IA. Early life in Iowa first born white settler claims to. Led emigrant train at Council Bluffs at age 21 across the desert endured nine years mining in California Nevada Oregon. Returned to Iowa married Sarah Ruthford March 1871 moved to Black Hills 1878 and Crook County Wyoming 1885 where he lived until death after paralysis onset June 15 last year. Funeral by D W Tracy January 24 large turnout. Interment Belle Fourche Cemetery January 25. Thus passes a sturdy pioneer and good citizen mourned by community.
