A vintage advertisement promotes toys books and games for children plus watches diamonds jewelry toilet articles books stationery and other suitable gifts for the family and friends across the holiday season.
Last Monday John Mahoney and Mrs. Gertrude Morrin went to Omaha and were united in marriage. Mahoney is a well known Crook county rancher with large holdings in Alva country near Lame Jones and Beaver Creek. Upon return, many friends will offer best wishes.
George Jolley son of Mr and Mrs William Jolley and Millicent Gray daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Ome were married in Belle Fourche on December 15. Both are well known with many friends and will reside on a ranch near Hulett. The couple’s wedding is followed by community dances and social events in the area.
December holiday recess set for the High School from December 23 to January 3 1016 and lower rooms from December 24 to January 10 with several notes on students and events. Jay Durfee works on corn fodder while Clare Callquist, Delbert Richarda, and Dexter Gunderson are mentioned for health and effort. Ninth grade studies Medieval History. tenth grade to Modern History. Rosa Storm earns first honor in penmanship with Wanda Bunch second. Spelling match results show outsiders performing well. School musicians include Misses Helen Durfee and Clare Calquist on piano, Miss Merrill Brown singing, and Turneaure and Tucker on cornet. An improv basket ball game followed the program. lighting and hall decor praised. upcoming tests and games noted for December and January.
The Willing Workers will discontinue their meetings on January seventh when they will meet with Mere, Robert me Tala Ander on Secretary.
A public versus school spelling contest drew a large crowd with Rev. J. M. Brown listing about five hundred common words. Five spellers remained on each side, naming winners from both groups. A follow up contest is planned to boost participation.
John H. Skinner, born in Kansas, died December 6 at Sheridan hospital after an appendicitis operation. A prominent Black Hills newspaper man and founder of the Inter Mountain Globe, he lived in Upton since 1908 and left a wife, daughter, mother, two sisters, and two brothers. Burial planned in Ainsworth, Nebraska.
Dr Bostwick urges public aid to enforce vital statistics law. Births must be registered within ten days and deaths before burial or removal. Physicians midwives or relatives must file birth certificates within ten days. penalties include fines or jail for falsifying records or failing to register. State registers will notify prosecutors to enforce uniform compliance.
Sunday service at 11 a.m. features "The First Christmas Anthem." Evening message at 7 30 p m titled "Old Year Day." Friday evening the Sunday School Christmas exercises will be held with a brief musical, a short origin story, and a Christmas tree.
