Governor Joseph M. Carey proclaims Monday September 4 1911 as LABOR DAY in Wyoming urging citizens to observe with gatherings, closings of businesses, and respect for labor. Frank L. Houx Secretary of State notes seal and date in Cheyenne.
The notice lists threshing as the main task for the week with Will Canzleman selling a wheat load in Hulett last week. Joe Durfee and George Ripley are active on the roundup. A dance is planned at Frank Feigle's next Saturday. Mrs Dollie Ripley is being sewn for by Mra N O Oliver for the past week. W A Ripley visited Sundance last Monday with provisions for his family. Will Canzleman and family and A R Sinnon visited Pine Ridge last Sunday. Sam Wooldridge and Win Lavell crossed the Kansas divide and got lost finding their way out.
The report notes the deaths of two infants in the region from cholera infantum. The first, seven months old, died at Aladdin and was buried in Storm cemetery after a service led by Rev. McRae. The second, Leo Hoy, died near Hulett while traveling from Moorcroft. funeral services were held at the Hulett church.
Local notes report Oona Hocooummamannoons and D L Owens trip to Belle Fourche, fencing plans for Pearl A Hunnicutt, and widespread duties as sheepmen crowd new settlers. Reeded by B F Phillips to ship cattle, Nils Nilson surveys for W Ryan, and Willard party back from Spearfish. Rain arrives easing drought, corn cutting and threshing begin, with reports of cyclones, roof damage, and community visits.
A blaze at Carlile last week consumed J. W. Oliver house and furniture, leaving only clothes on a line. The incident is portrayed as one of growing home fire losses in the region and a warning to exercise strict care with fire.
Henry Nelson announces a move to a site one mile east of H B Clarks on Lytle Creek in mid September. He will offer lumber for sale at 12 dollars per thousand.
Beaver Creek reports Louis Johnson sold sixteen hogs to Ed Willson this week and J B Clark bought 37 cattle from Lewis Johnson on Friday. Irving Bear tends Mr Woodcocks chores while Alec visits Montana. A light frost last Friday morning caused little damage. Will Denniston returns to Crook County, not staying long. Mr and Mrs A P Anderson, daughter Lydia, and granddaughter Marie Atkinson passed through Friday en route to Hulett.
A fragment notes Gonza Mudd Bud Eddie and Demal Dillehe Mrs Holt Richard Foley Theodore Uhlig Leslie Hayes and Arthur Birch traveled Friday to Halett on their way home to Whitewood and Tilford 5.D. after visiting Ridge Mont where they filed on adjoining homesteads. The group must travel far from Hulett to secure nearby parcels as nearby land is scarce.
Rodney King was in town on business Monday. Mrs. Charlie Hardy of Morris town visited the Clark Lome last week. Mrs. Johnnie Cochran left for Spearfish to herd sheep for Mr. Weare. The New Haven school house moved last Saturday to be ready for winter session. Edith Clark mashed two fingers when an anvil fell on them. Miss Graphia Mewhirter and Miss Edna Randall visited Gillette. Mewhirter to remain, Edna to return later. Rev. Amos left for Superior Nebraska. townsfolk regret his departure and hope he returns next summer.
