On September 9 10 1910 Sundance will entertain the Crook County Fair and 7 ate. This occasion offers to exhibit products of the country and exchange social greetings. It urges people of common interest to meet annually to discuss plans and strengthen the country through fair participation.
Ferrall findings recount warm week weather with visits from Mrs Clara Lanning and daughter. Jared bade Ferrall farewell and left for home. Local residents report lively times and a bustling county with five candidates on street corners. An accident injures Ripley. a wagon wreck is noted and corrected to Robert Guan in prior issue. Farmers discuss county fair dates and exhibit goals. Nellie Cameron moves to homestead. Richard Craige rents other ranches. Thirty to forty tons of hay burn in an old ranch fire. Well drilling by D G Frost yields ten feet of water. Hay Creek drillers report five wells with water. The Herolds visit W F Smith, plan Los Angeles move. Peter’s health improves. readers tour Tower and Hulett, marvel at busy town. Dances at Sum Storm’s ranch attract neighborhood crowd. Blanche Dagger returns from Hulett. local diners and staff noted in restaurant. E BE Reed, J S Lebo, Lew Mespell appear on recent sick list.
Norman Allen went to Sundance at the start of the week and Mins Pearl SeaGeet hosted friends Friday evening. Degger and daughter Opal began a trip to Moorcroft on Monday, Sam Haptonstall made a business visit to Moorcroft last Monday, and Vonzelman returned from Ka with mules and horses, taking the latter part of the trip.
The week brings illness in the neighborhood as Mrs. Frank Wayne visits from Belle Fourche and Mrs. Chep Tromble expects kin from Chicago. Mr. Chesser and two sons arrive from Goldie to visit Howard Sherrard, while the Taylor families from Sundance dine with Irvin Richards. Cecil Richards nearly loses a finger while testing a washing machine. A telephone would aid during dry weather to prevent fires. Dr Lebo and others are praised for efforts against Wyoming corn huskers. Nettie Truax announces candidacy for county superintendent, seeking Democratic nomination. she urges competency and stability after years of school improvement work.
Ed Port visited Hulett last Monday to assess local support for county treasurer. He found strong town unity for reform and favorable opinion of Port’s qualifications. Port, a longtime deputy and ranch operator, emphasizes multilingual ability and bookkeeping experience as his assets in pursuing the nomination.
Sioux City Tribune notes a shift in political alignment as voters abandon old party labels. Progressives and standpatters mix in campaigns. leaders urge unity under shared goals. The piece cites Wickersham on like-minded cohesion and warns against clinging to badges over principles.
Amusing costumes are expected at the poverty social with plenty of fun planned tomorrow evening. The rain yesterday will help prepare soil for fall cultivation. Frank Cooper visited from Lightning Flat ranch on business. Two Roy Rakestraw sisters arrived from Kansas and Nebraska last Tuesday and went to the ranch the same day. George Aline of Denver connected with the Bureau of Pensions as a special examiner visits town this week. Tom Sommerville injured at Merrick's saw mill last Monday when a heavy board struck his scalp. Dr. Knight treated the injury and Sommerville is not worse. Mrs Hattie Kelley harvests 19 bushels per acre of winter wheat and shares farming pointers with local men. Dr L D Bailor visits Bear Lodge Mining District and predicts development work this winter with capital investment. Monitor notes Mina Lee Baker struck by a foul ball but ready to play again. W L Wright handles cranberry contracts for Everett Eagle and Rev McRae residences. Plumb family and Rev Cain visit Spearfish from the Mer cantile business and M E church. Mont Hutchins’ saw mill burned near Miller Creek, causing a significant loss. Local printers advertise attractive stationery featuring Devil's Tower color cut for ranch letterheads.
