Young American seeks to buy state land at low price
A clean living American who arrived two years ago from a failed venture now saves over $1,000 through dry farming. He eyes 160 acres of state school land at $10 an acre with an eighteen year term, hoping to fence and cultivate it or rent it to a neighbor. The land, leased to a cattle outfit and not for sale, would yield $32 annually at 5 cents per acre, while buying would incur interest costs of $64 per year, prompting critics who call the policy poor for the state.
