Indiana news brief reports Governor Ed Jackson facing a motion by Attorney General Gilliam to reconsider pardoning power amid Shumaker's contempt fine and 60 day sentence. Shumaker plans church talks while anti saloon league support letters praise his stance and vow continued push for farm relief.
An outbound Illinois Central local train sideswiped a freight engine near Bluff road and Belt Railroad tracks on a clear morning, injuring four seriously while seventeen passengers escaped major harm. A switching freight engine blocked the switch. many workers aided as debris scattered along the tracks. Local officials credited steel cars and luck for the lack of fatalities.

Ernest Deane 16 of 1759 Morgan street is in critical condition at City Hospital from an accidental gunshot wound while hunting with Chester Inlow 14 of 1910 South Belmont avenue. Inlow led ahead with a shotgun when the weapon discharged striking Deane in the abdomen near Raymond and Harding streets.

Philadelphia news reports Barbara Elliott a 24 year old New Yorker attempted to jump from the Delaware River Bridge saying a companionate marriage failed and she wished to die with her expected baby. A bridge patrolman restrained her until she was saved. She claimed Charles Elliott disappeared two weeks after the wedding.

Mrs Lucille Sawyer, 48, died today in Brazil while on a so called stolen automobile ride with Oscar Farmer. Police detained Farmer as an investigation began. Sawyer reportedly had a history of high blood pressure and heart disease.
Isa belle Grant born a Kentucky pioneer’s daughter rose to fame as Belle Applegate and Phadrig Ago'n in European opera houses. She pawned her fur coat to buy poison and died in a Chicago psych hospital hours after swallowing it. Her letters blamed American neglect and cruel relatives.
Terre Haute Ind Oct 20 Coal miners of Indiana will vote Saturday on the new wage scale contract agreed by their scale committee and the Indiana coal operators The locals will tabulate and send results to district offices by Oct 30 If favorable the wage becomes effective Nov 1 and lasts until March 30 1930 Officials on both sides expect a favorable vote.
Superior Judge Linn D. Hay ordered the reopening of the Knox Consolidated Coal Company mines after a petition by Edwin D Logsden, the receiver. The idle mines will resume under the wage scale agreed by United Mine Workers of America and Indiana operators.
