Patient forgets operation to warn sanitarium fire
In Ortland Oregon a patient recovering from major surgery at a Portland sanitarium awakened early and alerted the switchboard to a fire in the boiler room. Nurses and staff evacuated bedridden patients as the fire department battled the blaze. The patient, W. A. Grossenbacher, was shaken by flames but uninjured, and the heating plant was saved.
