Mrs. Nettie Ransford 90 longtime patron saint of Indiana in the Order of Eastern Star died at 9 AM at the Masonic Home in Franklin after months of illness. She led the General Grand chapter as most worthy grand matron and served as grand secretary from 1894 to 1900, later secretary emeritus. Born November 5 1838 in Little Falls New York she taught in Nebraska before moving to La Porte Indiana and Indianapolis where she joined the Eastern Star. She helped found The Eastern Star the order’s official publication and was active in civic charity work including Local Council of Women and Women’s Press Club. She helped found the Masonic Home where she died.
