U S Steel leads a broad decline on the New York Stock Exchange as trading nears 7.75 million shares. Steel tumbles to new 1929 lows while several leaders fall. a late Washington no-emergency statement briefly steadies prices.
The Michigan City election commissioners appeal a ruling that would keep newly elected Republicans from city offices. The court denied the Republicans' motion to dismiss. The present city government is democratic after the court declared the city manager law unconstitutional. Arthur L. Gilliam represents the appeal.
Robert M. Searle, president of Rochester Gas and Electric and an Associated Gas and Electric official, was found dead at his Rochester home. Initial reports indicated he died from an apparent self inflicted exposure to illuminating gas. His family was reported to be in New York.
Charleston W Va Nov 13. State and county police with tear and smoke bombs sealed an abandoned Cooper's Creek mine to trap Tom Carte sought for murdering his landlady Lena Marion. Mob threats rise as officers guard mine entrances and search each chamber. Carte fled into hills after the slaying two weeks ago and was last seen entering the old shaft with a shotgun and sack of supplies.
A jury pool forms in the case of Mrs. Jeanette Kilner 54 of 1470 North Pennsylvania Street charged with the May 1 murder of her husband Edwin 64 at their Speedway City area home. Eleven jurors sit as twenty five talesmen are called. special judge Ralph Kane has summoned about a hundred jurors. Kilner faces second degree murder charges and denies guilt. Edwin Kilner was said to be her third husband.
Joseph O Leary a prominent Columbus concert manager fell from the seventh floor of the Neil House hotel and police say he took his own life after reportedly suffering financial troubles. The death occurred in downtown Columbus.
Edwardport Indiana November 13 Accidental gun discharge by James Archer 17 costs him an eye and likely arm amputation. Doctors said his left eye was shot out and the left arm probably would have to be removed.
Gene Alger 21 of Indianapolis and his wife Josephine face trial in Jennings county circuit court Vernon Ind for robbing Paris Crossing State Bank Aug 15 of more than 750 dollars. Alger identified by bank employees as the bandit. he and Josephine held on bonds of 15000 and 10000. He also linked to Lafontaine bank robbery. case tied to Gail Gent and wife. Alger previously paroled by Governor Leslie after manslaughter term.
Washington reports the House will stay in session through the first Monday in December hoping the Senate completes tariff bill action for passage at the special session. Rep. Snell of New York, Rules Committee chair, relayed this to President Hoover. In Anderson Indiana the new postoffice will have its first floor ready for Christmas use, with temporary quarters for the rest until completion.
At Holy Cross cemetery in Malden, Mass, reports claim a blind boy and a non speaking girl were cured at the grave of Rev. Patrick J. Power. Vincent ONeill aged X and Teresa Paolo aged six reportedly spoke or saw for the first time after visits by thousands, including Cardinal OConnell who offered no verdict.

William S. Ragan, a former Indianapolis businessman and Linde Air Products superintendent, is questioned after admitting he played both banker and bandit roles. He was shot during a Fisher Illinois bank raid and is hospitalized in Urbana, Illinois. Authorities link his description to the Oxford Indiana and Tuxedo State bank holdups as they pursue the case.
Police found twenty six men and nine young women dancing to phonograph and accordion music at a local cemetery chapel in Peabody Massachusetts. Thirteen quarts of alleged beer were seized in the chapel and twenty five quarts in the cellar. The chapel caretaker will be summoned to court on charges of illegal manufacture of liquor and keeping liquor for sale.
Alvin Thomas, hospitalized with pleurisy, says he has not seen George A. McManus or Arnold Rothstein for two months before Rothstein's murder. He recalls playing cards with them and that McManus lost, complicating the trial delayed by his absence in New York.

The bandits fired on police as they fled, leaving a stolen car with two bullet holes in Russell avenue.
John H. Thornburn former Urbana bank president must serve one to ten years after pleading guilty to embezzling 100000 from the institution. He disappeared after the bank closed four weeks earlier and surrendered to Judge D. H. Wamsley who sentenced him.
