In Criminal Court today four men Arlie Balthrip Archie Grinnell Lewis Dunn and Charles Barry both 18 to 25 faced potential death sentences for the slaying of Charles Conrad 68 during an attempted hold up at Standard grocery 2816 Clifton. Pike pleaded for pleas of guilty for life terms but Judge James A Collins and Prosecutor William H Remy refused the option.
Mrs Frances Hill of Fourteenth and Bellefontaine was awarded 2500 damages by a Superior Court jury for the death of her husband Gurney Hill, killed in an automobile collision at Fourteenth Street and College Avenue in August 1926. The defendant Norman F Six of 1001 Delaware Street faced a $10000 suit. The jury deliberated three hours before the award.
Washington May 25 United Press reports four Democratic Senators quit a filibuster on the Muscle Shoals conference report after being told President Coolidge would veto the measure. The Senate then adopted the Norris report 43 to 34. the revised bill goes to the House before a presidential decision.
Two railroad men died and several passengers were shaken when a northbound train hit a stalled truck trailer at a grade crossing near St John Gary Indiana. Engineer William Bellanger and Fireman Floyd Crowder died in the crash and their bodies were recovered from the engine cab. Colonel Walter Riley directed rescue operations as prominent Lake County Republicans returned from the State convention in Indianapolis aboard the wrecked train.
Merchants Association and several prominent firms announce clocks moved forward one hour to daylight saving time. Banks, manufacturers, and offices including Ford, Marmon, Stutz, Eli Lilly, and the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce switch on Monday with others awaiting the Clearing House decision.

The board of works planned to condemn Oriental property for the new street, as the plant of the Ford Motor Company west of Oriental threatened to move unless the street closed. Keeping Oriental open would disrupt factory sidetrack operations unloading cars.
Attorney Arthur M. Good will depart Indianapolis Airport this afternoon at 5 30 by mail plane to Salt Lake City Utah for a Saturday evening client conference in preparation for a Monday trial. He plans to fly to Los Angeles and return by air late next week. A delegation of Indianapolis Kiwanians was to see Hood off this.
Indiana Republican convention nominates Harry G. Leslie of Lafayette for governor after a multi ballot fight. Backed by Walter Bossert and remnants of D C Stephenson’s faction, Leslie gains key support from county delegates to seal the 825 vote nomination. Other statewide incumbents listed include Edgar D Bush Otto G Fifield Grace Banta Urbahns Archie N Bobbit Genevieve Brown Roy Wisehart David A Myers Elmer Q Lockyear Noel D Neal.
Alter McNerney, 35, of 1180 Kentucky Ave, jumped from Morris Street bridge after his mother threatened self harm. Police say he swam for an hour, refused rescue boats, and was detained at City Prison on a drunkenness charge. A brother helped pull him ashore. He admits frequent swimming.
Paul Connor 18 was wounded in the back by Patrolman Carl Wilson near midnight after Connor and companions fled when officers approached near 232 Toledo St. Connor, reported in critical condition at city hospital, had no prior trouble and worked for the John A. Boyd Co. for two years. Detectives interviewed three companions as investigations by police and family attorney proceed.
Senate agricultural chief McNary announced plans to push a vote to override President Coolidge's veto of the McNary Haugen farm price bill. He had earlier called the move futile but was persuaded by farm bloc members. He said the override vote would not be used to stall the Boulder Dam bill and would come after that measure advances.
Harley Johnson, 27, Brown County farmer, died in Bloomington Indiana after injuries from blasting stumps. His hand was blown off in the explosion and his body mangled. Two days earlier his arm had been amputated in an attempt to save his life.
Ford Motor Company officials plan to resume operations at the local assembly plant on June 4 with about 400 former employees to be hired initially. The date is tentative as new equipment is not yet installed and daylight saving time will be adopted.
Hoover spoke at a Washington dinner attended by 134 Congressmen including twenty from Pennsylvania. James W. Good presided as former Iowa Congressman. Hubert Work of the Interior Department also spoke while Congressmen addressed the meeting amid Hoover campaign dinners.
