Cleveland May 24 Pilot Samuel Samson flying the Cleveland to New York night air mail made a successful parachute jump when the engine failed at 8000 feet during a downpour. The crippled plane crashed and burned but 545 pounds of air mail were saved and sent to New York. Samson rode the plane to 500 feet from the ground and narrowly escaped death when his parachute grazed a high tension line. He turned the plane upside down to dump the mail bags.
