United Press reports a major southeastern Alabama flood isolating Elba and surrounding towns. Up to 10,000 people are believed trapped on rooftops and upper floors as National Guard units and volunteers deploy by boat and air to search for survivors.
Putomile Alabama March 15 flood conditions reported in Breston and Geneva with residents moving to upper floors to escape rising waters and imminent drowning risk.
President Hoover today received his first pay check as head of the United States. The $2,083.33 check was delivered to the executive offices by treasury department messenger Mrs. Catherine Shea, who has distributed White House checks for years. The pay covers the period from March 4 to March 15.
The flood situation shows Alba Alabama marooning 4 000 residents as 20 000 statewide are affected. Rivers rise across Iowa Wisconsin Illinois and Arkansas Tennessee and Mississippi with lowlands inundated. New England and upstate New York report rising Connecticut Housatonic Agawam and Deerfield rivers.
Federal forces led by Plutarco Elias Calles entered Durango this morning with plans to establish a headquarters by noon and push toward Torreon where rebel forces under General Amagas reportedly remain entrenched. General Amaya’s troops were said to have retreated north.

Funeral services were held today for John Krummpp 64 longtime manager of the McBeth Swans Glass Company and renowned glass blower. He died of paralysis after more than fifty years in the glass industry.

President Hoover announced the appointment of Representative Walter H. Newton of Minnesota as third secretary. Newton will resign his congressional seat immediately to become the president's administrative assistant.
United Press reports on March 15 that crews fought through snowdrifts on the Lincoln highway between Cheyenne and Laramie to reach Summit Inn twelve miles east of here. Twenty two tourists and motorists were marooned for three days awaiting rescue.

Two sailors died when a six inch shell exploded aboard the French destroyer Smomali during target practice before the breach could be closed. The incident occurred in harbor, with official reports confirming both fatalities.
