County authorities will reopen the examination of the J. F. Wild & Co. state bank's failure, aiming to resolve solvency questions from 1927. Homer Elliott will be appointed special deputy prosecutor to investigate and report to the county grand jury.
Resources increased by 4 048 620 50 while deposits fell 2 086 422 79 in banks under state supervision in the last half of 1928 compared with the first half, Luther F. Symons reporting to the banking commissioner says. The six month period saw twenty fewer financial institutions, leaving five savings banks, 114 private banks, 503 state banks and 159 trust companies under state control.
Norman A. Perry of Indianapolis Power and Light Company was re-elected president of the Columbia Club at a directors meeting. All officers were re-elected with Fred C. Gardner as vice president E. P. Akin as manager and club secretary and Frank Butler as treasurer. Perry Gavin L. Payne and Elmer W. Stout were named directors.
John Coolidge and Florence Trumbull attended an informal dance given by New Haven railroad clerks at the Lawn Club, their first social function since the Governors ball a month earlier. John works in the statistical department.
In a West Maryland street house raid, Sergeant Loren Troutman and a police squad dismantled a still and began pouring mash into a tub. A railroad worker helped move the mash and was not detained. Barney Rappold, a switchman, was later arrested for manufacture and possession of liquor after a chase. A traffic jam and long wait disrupted the raid en route to a Holmes avenue grocery where the holdup report proved a false alarm.
Indiana senators clashed over deliberate changes in House Bill 51 in the engrossing room. Senator Winfield Miller led protests against system inefficiency, with Lt Governor Bush and others agreeing on frequent errors. Cravens urged a watch from the state board of accounts as the chamber recalled the bill for corrections.
In Bridgeport Connecticut a charity operation performed four weeks ago by Dr. John H. Finnegan led to his death after infection developed from a scratched finger before sterilizing instruments. His right arm was amputated and he died yesterday.

He noted H A Nelson paid $25 on a $100 bond and questioned the bondsman’s fee while Don ald Underwood posted Nelson's bond. Rathermill, jailed for license plate, forfeited a $25 bond and was rearrested after missing court.
Indiana senators voted $20,000 to create a governor appointed commission to study sales taxes and report a plan for a levy to the 1931 legislature. The bill passed the senate Thursday and goes to the house. Also a tax refunding measure was introduced proposing refunds for ten years totaling $10,000,000 statewide and $8,000,000 in Marion County.
Reginald V. Clarke known as the boy with a hundred sweethearts asks permission to wed Miss Mary Agnes Fontaine, daughter of Mrs. Alice Fontaine, the murder victim Clarke was condemned to die for killing. He sought approval from Sir William Joynson-Hicks before execution. Clarke claims Princeton study and hypnotizing women to gain money. Miss Fontaine declined to comment.
Gordon Stewart Northcott, 22, of Riverside California, was found guilty of first degree murder in the slayings of three boys on his California wine ranch. The jury, in two ballots, recommended no mercy and the death penalty, which is automatic under California law. He will be sentenced by Judge George R. Freeman after a 90 day wait and plans an appeal.
Owen D. Young and J. Pierpont Morgan, official U.S. representatives at the war reparation experts conference, arrived in Europe aboard the Leviathan. They declined to speak to reporters and were welcomed in Paris.

James Lanahan a 45 year old resident of 1520 East Vermont Street was sentenced by Municipal Judge Clifton R Cameron to sixty days at the state farm marking his sixteenth trip there since 1924 He pleaded not to be jailed but said he would serve the sentence after being arrested in a West Washington street poolroom with blood on his face He spoke defiant saying I wont squawk None of your business Lanahan was fined 25 dollars and sent to the farm for fifteen terms with this latest ruling.
Senator George P. McLean of Connecticut is recovering from a three week flu at his home and expects to return to the Senate next Monday, according to his office.
Louis Kostovet sky of the Bronx won a traffic court motion amid a tale of three fish caught in a rush to reach home and display his catch to his wife. The incident occurred after he ran a traffic signal on the way home.
The Virgin Islands face the first capital punishment in over a century as Joseph Braffith is condemned by Chief Justice George Washington Williams. Sheriff says he will not perform the sentence, planned for March 29 after Braffith killed Peter King in a dispute over a woman.
One B and O freight train crash near Willow Valley Indiana injured a fireman W Wilkerson of Seymour with a broken arm and cuts. Several others suffered minor injuries as officials prepared to investigate the wreck later today.
Edwin B. Denby former secretary of the navy died suddenly of heart failure at a Detroit hotel. He was 59 and had appeared in good health recently, with regular office hours over the past two weeks. Denby served as Michigan congressman and navy secretary from 1921 to 1924.

Eamon de Valera, Irish republican leader, was sentenced to one month in jail for violating a ban on entering Northern Ireland. He was arrested Tuesday while attempting to cross the Ulster border to speak at a Gaelic meeting in Belfast. The sentence excludes hard labor and grants library access and other privileges.
A police bullet aimed at a group of juveniles thwarting a store robbery in Steubenville struck Edward Tomasewski who was asleep at home. He was hospitalized with a non serious wound and is reported in stable condition.

A 14 year old boy acted as contact man for a master counterfeiter who duped Indianapolis firms of more than 200 dollars. He was caught at the Levinson hat shop after attempting to pass a raised $20 bill. Police say the boy kept $2 from each small purchase and gave the rest to the man.
