Senate renews tariff debate and tax cut plan
Washington dispatch reports the Senate completed the Wool schedule section of the tariff bill and will pause Friday for a $160 million administration tax reduction. The House moved swiftly on the tax resolution and a $283 million interior department bill, while Senate delays push actions past Christmas. Additional Senate moves include a 10 percent capital gains tax proposal effective 1930 and a 1 percent cut on 1929 taxes. Three investigations proceed, including cotton price inquiries led by Rep Townsend and Sen Heflin, with witnesses from major cotton exchanges.
