A public peace initiative gathers support as signers urge ratification of the Kellogg Treaty. Citizens urge the pledge to advance the pact before Christmas and send names and addresses to The Indianapolis Times Peace Editor.
Indian, New York ministers and leaders nationwide back the Kellogg anti-war treaty with calls for swift ratification. Cities including New York Pittsburgh Cincinnati Cleveland and Rochester report strong public support through church groups colleges and civic organizations.
Postmaster Robert H. Bryson urged the public to mail Christmas cards early for Indianapolis delivery and tied bundles marked for Christmas delivery. He then mailed a large number of his own cards to set an example.
Ballots pour in from Indianapolis and Camden indicating strong local support for The Times drive to advance the Kellogg peace pact through Congress by Christmas. Early totals show 1 056 to 17 in favor, with many more ballots yet to count.
Senator J. E. Watson announced support for the Kellogg peace treaty as written. He replied to a telegram from Mrs. Elizabeth Stanley of the Indiana W C T U praising the treaty and urging ratification. Watson favored quick ratification as a Christmas present to the world but warned it may be difficult. Senator Robinson said he has not studied the treaty enough to commit and will comment after further study.
Shortridge high school officials plan an open house at the new building at Thirty fourth and Meridian tonight and tomorrow night. The R O T C will guide visitors. A concert by the Shortridge band is tonight, with Boys and Girls Glee Clubs performing Thursday and both orchestra and glee clubs Friday.
The municipal court and a superior court ruling seal a gambling cleanup in Indianapolis. Seventeen defendants faced judges Wetzer and Cameron after raid finds slot machines. two bonds of 100 dollars forfeited. fourteen cases continued past December 20. John Campbell fined five dollars and costs for keeping a gambling device. Fred W. Connell, safety board president, pledges intensified enforcement against hotel owners and managers.
D. L. Nutt a one-armed man kills John Cole near Baxter Springs after Cole was found with Nutt’s wife. In twenty five years of marriage Nutt has slain four rivals. His 19 year old son Bob is jailed with him. both charged with first degree murder.
BALKED AT GUARANTEE Members of the Mullikin law firm withdrew as defense counsel for Sam Palmer who is charged with killing his uncle Ira Tobey. They say Palmer refused to pay a reasonable fee unless they guaranteed an acquittal.
Charles Weidler a 60 year old banker stock raiser and prominent Democrat in Indiana politics was found dead in his South Bend office likely from heart disease He was a progressive Democrat who once bolted to support La Follette forces in Indiana for years he led agricultural movements and was a 1926 congressional candidate
Police Commissioner Joseph A. Warren is expected to resign within days. Mayor Walker is likely to offer the post to Grover A. Whalen, former commissioner of plant and structures and current chairman of the mayor’s committee on reception of distinguished guests.
Earth tremors were felt in Constitu cion Parral Couquenes and Rancagua with some houses collapsing but no fatalities reported. Short aftershocks prompted alerts as authorities assessed damage and safety.

Schleicker former assistant county road superintendent is jailed on $1000 bond after arrest for allegedly defrauding Marion County of several hundred dollars through false road construction claims. Investigated after County Road Superintendent Luther Tex flagged inflated or fictitious labor claims totaling about $650, including a $25 claim for nonworked labor on June 27 1928. Schleicker resigned weeks before his arrest.
Lyle Womack, husband of Ruth Elder, trans Atlantic aviator, received an interlocutory decree of divorce from the Canal Zone district court late Tuesday. The decree remains in effect unless Ruth Elder acts within six months.
