A ten car Interborough express wrecked at Times Square at 5:10 p.m. killing fourteen and injuring about 109. Panic and fires followed as rescue squads, priests, and officials moved through the tunnel and 2,000,000 area residents watched with fear.
Transportation issues persist as Butler University and Indianapolis Street Railway drop plans for a Forty-Seventh Street extension to the Fairview campus. The board rescinded rerouting on Boulevard Place and Forty-Seventh Street amid resident opposition led by the Fairview Park Civic League.
Thieves looted the Stewart Brothers radio shop at 654 Fairfield Ave overnight, carting away radios and furnishings worth 1514.50. The haul included Fada and Waterman Kent sets, rugs, a tapestry, loudspeakers, and tied to a Chrysler bill of sale found in the rear bags. Herman Hill a 40 year old man who posed as a horse thief detective faces blind tiger charges after an alleged Friday night plot to frame Edward Wise 31 of 911 E Merrill St for bootlegging Police found a liquor bottle in Wise car and Hill later led police to his home at 5400 block E 31st St where three dozen beer bottles were found Wise said the liquor was left by two women for him Hill gave his address as 2117 Tacoma Ave during the arrest
Aug 24 three nations continue the hunt along Greenland's coast for traces of the Great Rockford airplane carrying Bert Hassell and Parker D. Cramer from Cochrane Ontario toward Mt Evans Greenland. Reports from Liechtenfels and Fiskenaes seen a plane near two towns Sunday morning. Greenland governor and ice cap sheriff say the plane circled over the towns and then flew east. The towns lie off the flight path from Cochrane to Greenland.

Two men arrested Friday night by Deputy Sheriffs Charles Bell and Bale Brown confessed to stealing hundreds of dollars in chickens from Marion and Morgan County farmers. William Basey and Walter Gastetter face robbery and grand larceny charges, with Basey’s Auburn sedan used to transport birds.
Deputies arrest a soft spoken man named Gastetter after a Basey confession tied him to a daylight raid on the Gill farm at Sunshine Gardens three miles south of the stockyards last Tuesday. A flock of canaries found at the home is cited as evidence and Gastetter allegedly offered deputies canaries to gain leniency.

B D Thomson aged 50 of Columbus Ohio and Mason Fiber Lumber Company Chicago died early today after falling from the Roosevelt Hotel tenth floor. The Allegheny County morgue reports the incident.
Charles Grossart, street commissioner, names Clay Britton a clerk in the street commissioner's office. Britton is a Democratic party worker and will earn $1,500 annually. He replaces Henry Harrell, a Republican who has resigned.
Merl Maupin, a Wabash College graduate and pianist, will depart Crawfordsville in early September to become head of the piano department at Hastings College in Nebraska. Maupin has performed with the Crawfordsville Music Club and did Chauteauqua work during the summer.
Mor ris Emrick, a Cloverleaf freight truck driver, escaped death when his truck was struck by a westbound train at a crossing north of Bluffton Indiana. The engine scooped the body from the chassis, though Emrick halted the chassis a few feet from the impact.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars council convened at the Claypool to outline national and convention policies ahead of the twenty ninth annual encampment opening Monday. The meeting defined that political action would be taboo and only VFW matters discussed. memorial services open to the public will precede the convention in Indianapolis with community orchestras, religious leaders, and veterans speakers contributing to the program. Taps by the National Musicians will close the services.
