G O P Leaders See Negro Vote Shrinkage

For the first time in municipal elections the Republican party faces the possibility of losing a large share of the colored vote. Under William H. Armitage leaders seek to recapture former support as Rufus Page and Rufus Page-backed John L. Duvall gain traction with Walter Myers for mayor. Myers for Mayor Club activates at 1608 Martindale Ave as precinct workers mobilize in the first and second wards with efforts also aimed at the eighth ward. City employees of color assist quietly, fearing repercussions, amid a broader campaign environment shaped by historical party alignments.
