Charles Beay, 37, of 3600 Madison Avenue, a steeplejack, starts painting the interior chamber of Victory the statue atop the soldiers and sailors monument. He climbs 284 feet up by rope to inspect the iron framework and remove a bronze plate between Victory's arms.
Mrs. Fleming Wright of 762 Concord Street told police an odor of chloroform filled her husband’s empty bed and led her to fear he attempted suicide before vanishing early today. Wright had been ill for some time.
The Daughters of the American Revolution gathered about 6000 members in Constitution Hall for the 39th continental congress. The building, completed Sunday, cost three million dollars. President Hoover was to address the delegates that evening.
Evansville writer Henry Bedford-Jones known as the Fiction Factory was arrested on contempt of court charges after failing to produce his daughter Nancy Jane for a court order. He says he will return to Evansville to answer the citation, with custody battles and prior marriages tying him to California and Indiana. He posted a $1,100 bond and faced efforts to serve him while visiting Evansville.
Police reveal M. J. Dorsey of 3741 North Meridian Street was targeted for murder in a $100,000 life insurance swindle. Dr. Andrew J. Bass of Columbia Missouri allegedly confessed involvement and hired a St. Louis gang, with Dorsey as victim. Dorsey denies knowledge of a related Moline insurance scheme.

Four bandits robbed the Amelia State Bank of about 2500 dollars and fled in a gray car. An airplane with deputy sheriffs aboard patrolled the area in a hunt for the suspects and their vehicle.

Clinton G. Price district attorney of Juneau county and Wisconsin politician was shot to death in his kitchen at his home on the Lemon Weir river. Lyall T. Wright former Juneau county sheriff and key witness in Price liquor conspiracy trial is held for questioning. Price had recently been acquitted in Madison on March 16 after a three year fight with liquor interests.
New York April 14 Belle Livingstone author actress and salon host recalls a raid at her Park Avenue home by a prohibition officer who sang to entertain guests. She described tickets sold for liquor and a dramatic twist as the officer announced he would raid the gathering.
About 1,100 Hayes Body Company workers face layoffs as a walkout by 200 metal finishers and door hangers disrupts production for Marmon Motors.
