Police identify slain bandit Harry Rapp 35 after he was shot by George McCammon in a Prospect Street restaurant robbery. A woman may have shared the Chevy sedan used in the crime, and Rapp’s stepfather provided the robber’s name to police as they investigated two week’s killings.
Charlie Birger, a southern Illinois gang boss, gains a four day stay of execution from the Franklin County Circuit Court to allow a sanity hearing. Sheriff Pritchard’s team prepared for what would have been Illinois’ last hanging as electrocution becomes the death sentence. Birger watched the gallows from his death cell window and threatened to take workers to hell with him.
Mrs. Coolidge came back to Washington from Northampton where she stayed three weeks at her mother Lemira Goodhue’s bedside. Officials said the mother's condition remains extremely grave and no improvement is expected.
On April 13 an unidentified man on a cake of ice rode toward the Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian side. Witnesses T Moyer and A Mannette of Niagara Falls Ontario described the man in a dark gray suit and said he waved his hat and crew waved back as he plunged over the falls.
In Liberty Indiana on April 13 Mrs Martha Jones testified she peered through a door hole created by a 22 caliber bullet fired by her husband William E Jones at his first wife and observed him kissing another woman. Special Judge Gates Ketchums withheld decision in the divorce suit. Jones has been married three times.
Two bandits robbed C. M. Jesse drug store at 2202 Madison Ave this morning. Clerk T. W. Hollenbeck of the Spencer Hotel was alone when the men, about 30, pointed revolvers and forced him to the back room. They took 50 cents from the register and $14 from Hollenbeck, then pulled the cash drawer from the open safe. One robber kept him in the back while the other parked a car at the door. Amount taken from the safe of Jesse was not learned.
The U S government concluded its conspiracy case against Harry F Sinclair lessee of Teapot Dome. Two evidentiary rulings were pending for Monday. E L Doheny Jr. was dismissed on bribery charges but may testify if admissible. The judge kept the elder Doheny bribery case alive.
The McNary-Haugen farm bill moves to the House after the Senate approved a $400 million revolving fund to help farmers curtail surpluses under the equalization fee system. The Senate backed creation of a 13 member farm board. members would earn $10,000 annually, with party lines shown in the roll call. The bill faces a likely presidential veto from Coolidge.
Hiram W. Evans imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan faced cross-examination in a federal suit where the Klan seeks damages and a restraining order against five rebels. Evans denied all charges including murder and rioting, admitting only he could have stopped a 1923 Carnegie parade.
Governor Al Smith of New York arrived in Asheville North Carolina with friends for his first Dixie vacation. He was greeted by thousands at Biltmore station and led to the Biltmore Country Club amid cheering supporters. In Washington Senator Heflin charged the Smith campaign fund with corruption and called for investigations and testimony.
Eleven coal companies in southern Illinois with more than twenty mines signed the Jacksonville wage agreement. Most state mines closed April 1 after failed talks on a wage scale. The report notes temperatures readings across the day.

BBB officials say Rucker advertised a straight salary but paid only commission. He allegedly gave fifteen girls sales instructions when arrested in a downtown hotel.
