In Oro village, Gapsalkos district, peasant Johann Petsman believed sins demanded sacrifice. After neighbors moved his mother, he set a hidden pyre, stunned her, and cremated her. He remained calm, claiming he had done his duty.
Warrenton horse show association, under colored people’s auspices, will stage its first exhibition October 21 and 23 near Warrenton. It claims to be among Virginia’s first such events run by African Americans with Broadus Kenrick and Anthony Lee as organizers. No white riders or drivers allowed, though horses owned by whites may be entered.
Peter Hornaday and Miss Fern Hale of Pittsboro Indiana wed in the Occidental hotel parlors. Rev Zen Burkett of Edinburg officiated after a friend of the groom found him on the street and brought him to the hotel. Solomon Yewell of Marlon Indiana was found dead in his hotel room after attendants failed to wake him. Coroner Tutewller said death likely from apoplexy. no signs of suicide. Yewell was a book agent and ex Civil War veteran with a $12 monthly pension. He frequented Indianapolis and arrived Monday. Prison Sunday observance urged by Indiana state charities for October 3 through ministers nationwide.
Judge Whallon sent Jack Foley of Loulaville and Pat Keefe of 249 N Meridian St to jail till October 4 on $500 bond after a knife attack in a West Washington Street saloon. Keefe was slashed across the right mouth during an argument sparked when Foley allegedly set them up. Police arrested two men, Morgan and Simon, as witnesses.

After a week in custody, about six boring beetles will travel to Washington, D. C., to be registered among their kind. F H Houppert of a Marion street wine factory brought specimens to State geologist Bletchley who noted the insects bore into wine casks and leak wine. The factory lost nearly a bottle from their effects while the species remains unnamed and to be classified in Washington.

Dr Sterne and a young woman survived a heavy crash when their automobile wrecked into a telephone pole at Fort Wayne avenue and St Joseph street. He hoped the streetcar would beat the car to the station but the couple boarded the streetcar before the wrecked auto could reach the scene. The car was a wreck and the young woman was frightened but unharmed.
James Blauvault, a car repairer, was injured when a 20-pound iron wheel fell 20 feet onto his head between two cars at Panhandle shops. The wheel struck a three inch long gash, and his survival was described as miraculous.

Chicago weather dampens play at the National golf championship on the Chicago club links. Elisa Mabel Higgins, the California champion, led the field early with a strong start as Miss Anthony and others trailed. Higgins and partner Deering held a solid position, with several matches showing close scores after the first nine holes.
Martha Taylor, 16, of 2510 Haltimore Ave, confessed to stealing three rings and a watch from her sister. She and Earl Foultz posed as siblings when they traveled to Anderson Tuesday.
