Lanton Ohio Sept 30 A plan to blow up President McKinley's tomb with dynamite was foiled by a guard soldier Private DePrend of Fort Wayne Michigan on a 30 foot high vault ledge. He challenged a man hiding behind a tree and fired into the air when the man neared. A second assailant struck DePrend with a weapon but caused only a bruise. The intruders escaped as Lieut Ashbridge and other guards responded. DePrend, in service about four months, upheld a good record.
