Madrid reports a sensational royal scandal as King Alfonso accuses his mother of a morganatic marriage to Count Escosura. The queen mother had pledged to marry the master of horse but was forced to wed Alfonso I's father for state reasons. The king's rage led to abuse and orders to withdraw abroad.
Six men confess to grave robbing across months and claim Dr. John C Alexander aided the operations. Detectives say they obtained shotguns and other tools under false pretenses, with Cantrell identified as a key suspect. Police allege doctors notify colleges of suitable corpses, aiding the scheme.
On Saturday the arrest of Dr Joseph C Alexander demonstrator of anatomy at Central College and George Haymaker janitor followed the detention of seven accused grave robbers. Each man faced charges of aiding in concealing a corpse as a warrant circulated for Dr Wilson an interne. Rufus Cantrell allegedly led the group and confessed to police.

Isadore Saks and Andrew Saks began in 1890s with one room and now run a six story Washington DC building, four New York stores, Norfolk and Indianapolis locations, and a New York factory. E. K. Chapman manages the local store.
President John Mitchell and Secretary-treasurer Wilson of the United Mine Workers of America arrived in Philadelphia from Pittsburgh. They were greeted by District presidents Nicholls Duffy and Fahey and went to the Walton hotel for a conference with several officials. A midday session followed to discuss the coal situation, with exact reasons not revealed.
A circuit court hearing will address a custody dispute over a 3 year old boy. William Pitcher of Trafalgar seeks custody from his wife’s relatives after his wife died. Thomas Dudley, a young colored man, was found near Big Four railroad tracks in Cincinnati with letters suggesting relatives in Indianapolis. Police suspect he is the son of Thomas Dudley, a Columbia club employee. Club officials refused SUN access and blocked police from interviewing him, citing club rules.
Chairman McFarland says the 25 cent gas meter ordinance will come up next Monday night. He plans a minority report in its favor if needed. Crall supports it but may not sign a favorable report. Warren M. Newcomb, a well known young man, was found drowned in White River just above Riverside Park near noon Monday. The canoe was later found empty. hat located north of Big Four bridge. police recovered the body in about eight feet of water above the bridge. A single witness, Robert Cox, saw splashing through the mist and thought it a fisherman. The canoe club theorizes Newcomb slipped and overturned while retrieving his paddles.
President Theodore Roosevelt underwent a second operation at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis to drain a leg abscess. Doctors announced the cavity exposed bone was slightly diseased but not amputated, with pain relief from cocaine and expectation of rapid healing. Surgeon D John H Oliver and Dr Jameson and Dr Cook commented on the prognosis and need for possible bone scraping.
