Inmate Sent to Basle for Expense Savings
Indiana dispatches report Lawrence Ernst, an inmate at Whitely county infirmary, set to depart for Basle Switzerland funded by a $70 county appropriation. He has been in the asylum five years and is unlikely to recover, prompting the council to deem sending him cheaper than continued care. Separately, Richmond report notes the Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends endorsing a temperance crusade to unite Friends nationally and across Canada. The Southland college enrollment stands at 158 with many colored teachers sent through the South.
