Insurgents trapped the Urdaneta near Orani in Manila Bay. The crew was captured and the gunboat looted and sunk. Prisoners taken to Porac as Petrel Callao and Basco search for the sunken vessel. Orani lies about five miles from Manila in the bay’s northwest corner.
Rev Peter McQueen of Boston argues for replacing Gen Otis with a leader of strong character to secure peace in the Philippines. He says Dewey or a similar figure could have prevented war by persuading Aguinaldo to accept a just government under a protectorate. McQueen notes Otis favored MacArthur over Lawton and cites harsh actions and censorship episodes in Cavite and against round robin signers. Lopez and 64 men surrender on Negros as Manila reports.

Jessie Miller of Indianapolis gave that name. Miller says his daughter is named Lillie but known as Jessie. He deems her not fully sane and notes she left the city months ago after a lar ceny arrest. Her employers dropped charges, and she went to Terre Haute. He has had no trace since.
Atlanta Sept. 25. Benjamin W. Hunt, a wealthy Putnam County planter, publishes an article urging practical abandonment of farming by the negro race and adoption of factory and mechanical work by middle class whites to solve the race question. He argues negroes are better farmers and this fuels clashes with less successful whites.
A sou wester at Toledo on Sunday driven Lake Erie into a stormy sea with electrical bursts. Wind reached 70 miles an hour at 7 p.m. Telegraph poles and signs were ripped away as crews battled wrecks. Three yachtsmen saw a faint outline of a woman clinging to a stake but could not help.
London dispatch states the Manila railroad company, a British concern, has petitioned Lord Salisbury to secure damages for the United States taking possession of its Luzon line. The company has been assured that after pacification of the island, the British government will advance the claim.
The big plant of the Northern Pacific trading and packing company at Klawack on Prince of Wales Island burned. Also lost were ten thousand cases of salmon. Total loss estimated at $125,000. Incident reported from Wrangel, Alaska, via Seattle.

Frank Dwinell faced multiple counts in a police court docket including two assaults and batteries with five dollar fines plus costs and two counts of malicious trespass with one dollar and costs. Rose Patterson of 913 West Michigan Jr. charged that he assaulted her, damaged furniture, and fled, leading to warrants and his return Saturday before a repeat offense. He then went to the works.

The foot bridge near the old structure remains under consideration by the commissioners. The company is removing the old track on Twenty Fourth street to connect College and Central avenues. Illinois street barns and Brightwood and Columbia avenue barns will serve Central avenue and other lines, with the Louisiana street barn nearly ready.
The 300 member street railway union presented grievances to President Kilgore of Consolidated Street Railway Co on Monday. They demand 20 cents extra hourly pay for ten hours, stools for motormen, no discharge without full investigation, no repair costs charged to employees unless due to negligence, and reinstatement of all discharged since Sept 10. If unmet, a citywide strike would tie up Cincinnati.
Bartholomew Welsh and his wife, both elderly and recently married after three months' acquaintance, argued over their 12 year old daughter. While intoxicated, Welsh forced his wife from the home and locked the door until police threatened entry. Vaughn rose from captain of the Dixie Rifles to major general, was wounded multiple times, and lost a leg at Dalton.
The Oneida bowling club’s picket team led by Capt. Glelow Knox Schlake Ailen Jay and Wexler returned Monday from Chicago. They faced Capt. Anson’s Colts in the afternoon, won the first game 792 to 756, then lost 360 to 347 and 541 to 84. That night at Mt Alleys they lost two of three with scores 895 to 899 and 967 to 843 against them, and 733 to 728 in their favor.
