J B Caven general passenger and freight agent of the Valley railroad company was shot and killed Tuesday morning in a questionable city area. His body riddled with bullets was found face down at the foot of a fire escape behind the Clements block on Rockwell street. He was 59, a widower of good character, and had no history of drinking. No arrests had been made.
W P Beathett Louis Fisher and Jung of Indianapolis faced a Sabbath desecration charge after a beachside camping trip at Waverly. Two strangers demanded food and beer. the men refused, were jailed until midnight, and fined 2.36 dollars each. They allege the money was taken.
C. H. Boachie, a bricklayer, was wrongly accused of robbing a man during a depot crash on Monday night. Officer Al Johnson arrested him based on a report, but no timepiece was found. U. S. Marshal Hawkins testified to his honesty and Judge Stubba discharged him after noting a proper investigation was lacking.
