Thomas Wren, a single man employed by the street railway, was hauling rails on a long wagon when a northbound electric motor struck the wagon near North street. The wagon splintered, Wren suffered a badly meshed foot and other injuries, and the motor front was damaged while passengers endured a severe jolt. Wren was taken to his home at 43 House Avenue.
A blaze at 431 West Fifty Fourth Street in New York started when tenant Paul McAvoy dropped a lamp. The fire consumed the block, 80 families fled in panic as police rescued many inmates. John Durty, a single man, died at the hospital from severe burns. McAvoy was fatally burned.
